I am Lynne Gray. Welcome to my website. Here I hope you will find inspiration and ideas to enhance your own creativity.

Ever since I can remember, I have loved making things. Paper, pencils, paints, fabric, textiles and even clay have called to me and begged me to play.

Mixed media is where I spend most of my time these days. Teaching children and adults has been my primary focus here, although that requires a lot of my own playing with art supplies, learning from great teachers through online courses and experimenting with my own ideas.

Sacred Art is another passion.  I have learned to work in the traditional method of egg tempera, painting prototype images from the 14th C., under the tuition of Dr Ursula Betka.

An icon painting takes many hours to complete, so my work here is not as prolific as my mixed media artwork. I mainly work on commissions of small personal icons. I have participated in three group icon exhibitions and held my first solo exhibition in 2016. I also paint the paschal candle for St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne each year and sell original icons, prints and cards through the cathedral shop.

Teaching is another love. There is so much satisfaction to see others become passionate about art too and develop their skills.

Student’s work. Aged 8.

I run classes at my studio during the week for home school children and teach art at two homeschool co-ops. There is also an adult’s art journaling group and classes are held monthly.

I have been playing with encaustic also. Combined with mixed media it is very interesting to explore the properties of wax and how it can create an ethereal feel to a work of art. Many natural items can be incorporated into an artwork and be preserved.
